Breaking News!

June 25, 2016

Well Bible students, this has been an exciting week, hasn’t it?

To begin with, that noted Bible scholar Donald Trump as given us an updated interpretation of I Timothy 2:1-4.  To refresh your memory here are Paul’s words as translated by those other scholars who gave us the ESV:

“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

Trump has now clarified what Paul really meant and given a helpful contemporary application as he spoke to a group of evangelical leaders:

She’s (Hillary Clinton) going to be an extension of Obama but it’s going to be worse because with Obama you had your guard up, with Hillary you don’t and it’s going to be worse. So, I think people were saying, some of the people were saying, ‘Let’s pray for our leaders.’ Well, you can pray for your leaders, and I agree with that, pray for everyone, but what you really have to do is you have to pray to get everybody out to vote, and for one specific person. We can’t be politically correct and say we pray for all of our leaders because all of your leaders are selling Christianity down the tubes, selling the evangelicals down the tubes, and it’s a very, very bad thing that’s happening.”

Meanwhile, in the aftermath of the “Brexit” vote where Great Britain voted to pull out of the EU the Babylon Bee reports that “Dispensationalists Frantically Adjust End-Times Charts to Include Brexit Vote.”  If their report is accurate, (And with such a reliable source as The Bee that has such fact-filled articles as “Local Calvinist’s Sense Of Superiority Visible From Space” it has to be right doesn’t it?) it appears that these are frantic times for the dispensationalists among us.  Perhaps both Trump and Paul would let us pray for them.  Besides, I am sort of looking forward to that promised new book tentatively titled Brexit: Dispensation of Doom.

Who knows what comes next week?
